Our expert associate, Merima Smajlhodžić-Deljo, participated in a two-day training school (May 9th and 10th) on 3D cell culture models, held as part of the COST IMPROVE action at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
In addition to theoretical lectures, this school provided participants with the opportunity to actively engage in several practical tasks, enriching their experience and knowledge. Merima, who is also a co-leader of a working group within the COST project, not only shared her knowledge as a master of molecular biology with other participants but also adopted new practices that will further enrich her professional work.
This initiative represents a step forward in the exploration of the 3Rs - replacement, reduction, and refinement of animal use in research. Participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various models for in vitro testing, focusing on reproducibility and exploring new models used to approximate human conditions. The training school shed light on the latest models for researching human diseases and health problems with reduced animal experimentation.
We look forward to future collaborations and idea exchanges in the field of 3R research, and we are proud that Merima continuously contributes to progress in this important area.
