Two day workshop hosted by Verlab Institute brought together representatives of nine public sector institutions from across Bosnia and Herzegovina
Verlab Institute, through its Center for Digital Transformation, organized a two day professional workshop titled Application of Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration, aimed at strengthening the digital capabilities of government institutions and enabling practical use of AI tools in daily administrative work. The workshop was held in Sarajevo and gathered representatives of nine public administration institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Workshop focus
The program was designed to provide participants with a strategic understanding of digital transformation and hands on skills for using generative artificial intelligence. Through interactive lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises, attendees received a clear overview of how AI can streamline processes, enhance the quality of public services, and reduce administrative workload.
Day 1: Digital transformation and practical AI skills
The first day introduced key concepts of digital transformation, AI development trends, and real world examples of successful initiatives from the region and the EU. Participants practiced working with ChatGPT and other GenAI tools, including automation of official letters, standardization of communication templates, and creation of content for public calls, minutes, and internal documents. A dedicated segment focused on using AI as both an analytical and creative tool in public administration.
Day 2: Legal, ethical, and regulatory framework
The second day covered the legal framework for using artificial intelligence, including the AI Act, GDPR, and relevant EU regulations that impact institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Participants explored legal obligations, risks, user terms for tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini, as well as risk management models for implementing automation. The final session included a discussion on responsible and lawful use of AI technologies in the public sector.
Outcome
The workshop established a strong foundation for strategic understanding and responsible adoption of AI technologies in public administration. Participants received concrete tools, templates, and methodologies that they can immediately apply in their institutions, along with a clearer understanding of opportunities, risks, and regulatory requirements.
