The most innovative event of the year, the Sarajevo Roadshow, has successfully concluded!
On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the International science communication conference “Common horizons: Climate change, technology, and people” was held at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The event brought together 40 attendees who actively engaged in discussions about climate change from various perspectives. Notably significant messages centered around the use of climate services to improve responses to climate change, mitigate its impacts, and foster positive changes in the current situation.
Speakers included representatives from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of FBiH, Director Almir Bijedić and climatologist Dženan Zulum, as well as Assistant Professor Dr. Elnur Tahirović, a specialist in internal medicine at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Jelena Kalinić from the NGO Society for the Promotion of Natural Sciences “Science and the world,” Emina Nizić from the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, Associate Professor Dr. Dejan Durić from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Rijeka, Madžida Hundur Hiyari representing the AgroSmart EU4Agri project at the Verlab Institute, and Dragan Mihić from the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia. Through presentations and discussions with panelists, participants gathered insights from the fields of natural, technical, and social sciences, as well as arts and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, Associate Professor Dr. Seid Masnica, advisor to Minister Prof. Dr. Jasna Duraković from the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, addressed the attendees alongside Dr. Adna Ašić (Verlab Institute and DMBIUBIH) and Mirjana Volarev (Center for the Promotion of Science) representing the organizers.
The focus of the Sarajevo Roadshow program was the interactive and thought-provoking scientific-art installation, the Climate Capsule, which was available to citizens and visitors in front of the Sarajevo City Center over the three-day event from October 3 to 5. Through this installation, visitors gained new insights and refreshed their understanding of the scope and dangers of climate change, the anticipated consequences in the near future if our current approach to this issue does not change, as well as the importance and methods of utilizing climate services. According to visitors who experienced it, the installation offered an immersive experience for all senses and left a profound impression on them.
The innovative nature of the conference is reflected in its focus on citizens and tourists, who had the opportunity to broaden their perspectives on the impacts of climate change and the significance and positive effects of appropriately using climate services. This was also evident in the tremendous interest in the Climate Capsule, which attracted over 200 visitors during the three days of the event, particularly encouraging was the engagement of youth regarding this unfortunately ever-relevant issue of climate change.
