Investigation of the Nonspecific Immune Response of Lysozyme Using Advanced Simulation Techniques – LySim

The LySim project represents advanced research in the field of biomedicine and pharmaceutical sciences, focused on understanding the mechanisms of action of lysozyme—a natural enzyme that plays a key role in the human nonspecific immune response.

The goal of the project is to use modern molecular modeling and simulation techniques to analyze the structural and functional characteristics of lysozyme derived from different sources, namely, the human body and chicken egg whites, and to examine their mutual differences. A special focus of the research is placed on identifying how lysozyme interacts with other biomolecules under conditions that simulate the actual physiological environment.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with Bosnalijek JSC, a company that utilizes lysozyme in its products, primarily in the formulation of Lysobact tablets. The scientific insights gained through this research will serve as a foundation for improving existing products and developing new formulations that may offer enhanced efficacy and a broader range of applications.

This project is being implemented within the framework of the R&D Grant Scheme, jointly funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the project “Economic Governance for Growth (EGG2),” financed by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway, and the program “Translating the SDG Framework in BiH into Sustainable and Inclusive Growth (SDG2BiH),” financed by Sweden.
