Support to the top Bosnian athletes through a combined testing model to improve competitive results

Project name:

Support to the top Bosnian athletes through a combined testing model to improve competitive results

Project description:

The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OK BiH) is coordinating the project “Support for Elite BH Athletes through a Combined Testing Model to Enhance Competitive Performance,” funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, with Verlab Institute as a key partner. The project aims to optimize training, prevent injuries, and improve sports performance through advanced diagnostics and scientific methodologies.

The project activities include:

  • Ergospirometry to measure aerobic capacity and metabolic load zones.
  • Isokinetic testing for muscle strength and endurance assessment.
  • Psychological and cognitive assessment to evaluate stress responses and mental resilience.
  • Buccal swab sample collection for biochemical and physiological analysis.
  • Genetic testing focusing on ACE and ACTN3 genes, relevant to athletic performance.
  • Expert data analysis and individualized recommendations for tailored training programs.
  • Follow-up testing after six months to assess training efficiency and adaptation.

The program will test up to 15 elite athletes competing in summer sports, aged 16 and older. Initial assessments occur at the preparatory phase of the season, followed by a second evaluation three months later during the active season phase. The genetic testing is conducted only once, as genetic factors remain unchanged by training.

This initiative builds on a successful pilot program supported by the same Ministry and further refines the combined testing model within the Verlab Sport framework. By integrating cutting-edge sports science, the project provides innovative, data-driven training strategies to support the next generation of top BH athletes.
