COST Action CA22112 European Network on Livestock Phenomics (EU-LI-PHE)

Project name:

COST Action CA22112 European Network on Livestock Phenomics (EU-LI-PHE)

Project description:

The European Network on Livestock Phenomics (EU-LI-PHE) is a COST Action initiative established in September 2023, bringing together over 350 researchers from more than 40 countries. Its primary objective is to develop, integrate, and implement technologies and methodologies for comprehensive phenotypic analysis in livestock. By systematically describing traits such as milk production, movement patterns, and body composition, EU-LI-PHE aims to enhance animal breeding, improve production efficiency, promote animal welfare, and reduce the environmental impact of livestock production. Through these collaborative efforts, EU-LI-PHE seeks to advance the sustainability and competitiveness of the European livestock sector.

The network is structured into five working groups:

WG1 Phenotyping Technologies: This group aims to provide an overview of current phenotyping technologies and infrastructures applicable to livestock phenomics, and to define a roadmap for capturing high-dimensional phenotypic information on an animal-wide scale.

WG2 Genome-to-Phenome Integration: Focused on linking genome and epigenome variations to phenotypic variations across major livestock species, this group seeks to identify research needs and synergies, providing a clear trajectory for new applications.

WG3 Computational Resources and Methodologies for Data Analyses: This group provides an overview of available computational models, methods, and tools, identifying current and future needs for livestock phenomics applications, and addressing developments in cyberinfrastructures and computational capabilities.

WG4 Economic Impact, Regulations, Policies, and Society: This group examines the technological and economic impacts of livestock phenomics, summarizes relevant regulatory frameworks, evaluates data access, and analyzes societal perceptions, collaborating closely with other WGs.

WG5 Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, and Dissemination: Aiming to ensure continuous stakeholder engagement, this group oversees communication strategies, publication of reviews, reports, surveys, and the establishment of a website and social media presence.
