Verlab Institute recently participated in the “Life Course and Health” Symposium, organized by the International Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IANUBIH). This year marks the 35th anniversary since the United Nations General Assembly declared October 1st as the International Day of Older Persons, promoting sustainable and active aging in communities. Recognizing aging as a global challenge, the period 2021–2030 has been designated as the Decade of Healthy Aging. According to WHO population estimates, by 2050, one in six people worldwide will be over 65 years old, compared to one in eleven in 2019.
The European Association of Professors Emeriti (E.A.P.E.) is commemorating this day in several European cities: Catania, Kosice, Naples, Salerno, Sarajevo, Caserta, and Padua, marking Sarajevo’s first participation in promoting this socially significant initiative.
At the Symposium, Dr. Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić, Director of Verlab Institute, presented on the importance of using artificial intelligence in medical device maintenance, emphasizing its role as a key prerequisite for providing adequate healthcare services. Dr. Adna Ašić, Project Manager at Verlab Institute, presented the AthletICODE module, which supports athletes in identifying young talents, optimizing training programs, and protecting health during and after their careers. The module uses scientifically supported methods for testing psychophysical health and genetic predispositions. Dr. Ašić also shared insights from a project with elite Bosnian-Herzegovinian athletes, implemented in collaboration with the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton.
