In September 2023, Sarajevo hosted an exceptional international event featuring two scientific conferences. These were the International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering (CMBEBIH’23) and the Mediterranean Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing (MEDICON’23). Bringing together over 300 participants from more than 40 different countries, these conferences served as a platform for the exchange and discussion of a wide range of scientific and technological solutions, as well as innovations in the field of medical and biological engineering.
As part of the conference program, significant attention was given to the promotion of the digital innovation hub called its4Health. Its4Health is one of four digital innovation hubs supported through the EU4DigitalSME project, jointly funded by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ). It is focused on establishing and supporting the development of digital innovation hubs (DIH) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).
During a panel discussion titled “Meet the DIHs and eDIH”, European digital innovation hub SmartHealth eDIH from Greece, represented by Georgios Drosato of Athena Research Center, shared their experiences and vision for the development of a digital innovation hub in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Another speaker was a representative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology – EIT Health, Zsolt Bubori. Dr. Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić, the director of the Verlab Institute, spoke on behalf of the its4Health hub. This panel provided an opportunity for participants of the MEDICON’23 & CMBEBIH’23 conference to explore collaboration opportunities with digital innovation hubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and for hub representatives to strengthen their collaboration with EIT Health.
