Verification laboratory Verlab is accredited inspection body performing inspections of medical devices according to legal metrology framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, the activities within Verification laboratory Verlab were never limited to only inspections. In recent years, the company focused more and more into research and innovation, participating at national and international projects. In 2021. the company also became official partner of Emergency Care Research Institute.
Understanding the current ecosystem, in which research and innovation are important accelerators of economic and social progress, the company decided to support this field in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A series of steps was conducetd according to the Law on Scientific and Research Activity of Canton Sarajevo. Finally, on the 15th of December, 2021. Canton Sarajevo Government approved request of Verification laboratory Verlab to establish the Verlab Research Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices and Artificial Intelligence.
Verlab Institute is the first private research institute to be established in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main goal of establishing such institution is to generate, apply, and disseminate research findings through a global ecosystem of forward-looking stakeholders and build capacity by empowering the next generation of technology-enabled professionals. This is the major private investment to increase scientific competitiveness and excellence of BiH researchers, setting the path for well needed transition to a knowledge-based economy. As a newcomer institution it is able to overcome the usual inertia and lack of vision of individual public universities in BIH and to recognize and promote outstanding science. The scope of work of the Institute is scientific research in the field of biomedical engineering, medical devices and artificial intelligence with contribution to higher education.
The founder envisions for the Institute to become a reliable research institution, with an international reputation while paying attention to local values in the development, with the application of science, technology, arts and culture to improve the quality of life and civilization.
